Roberts out for a while

We all know Brian Roberts was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday. However, reporters just found out shortly before the game that Roberts received an epidural in his back.

He has been instructed to rest (he has no choice) for 4-5 days. Roberts won't pick up a baseball until at least Friday.

Between the abdominal pull and the herniated disk in his back, Roberts is expected to not only miss the 15 days required by MLB, but also the time he could possibly spend on a rehab assignment. Before Monday's game Dave Trembley alluded to the fact that Roberts might not be able to return to the Big Leagues right away after 15 days.

This means the Orioles will be without Brian for the bulk of this brutal schedule in April. Someone will have to pick up the slack and set the table for the offense.

So far this year the Orioles have only been able to score two runs total in the two games Roberts hasn't played. They averaged over four runs per game in the four he did. That's not to say the two are directly correlated, but there's a reason Roberts is regarded as one of the best lead off hitters in the AL.

Trembley would not say who will be batting leadoff most nights in Brian's absence. Monday it was Felix Pie and he made a case for himself by hitting a solo shot in his first at bat of the game.

Who do you think Trembley should use leading off while Roberts is on the disabled list?
