We'll know by the end of tonight's game who will be the Orioles starter for the series opener against the Yankees this Friday. Dave Trembley said he'll make an announcement in his post game press conference.
Popular belief [which is known to be dead wrong] is that Radhames Liz will be called up from AAA Norfolk.
Liz has found his command since being sent down to the minor leagues on July 27th. He was named International League Player of the week for August 10-16th. During that time he went 1-1 with a .64 ERA in two starts.
The other option appears to be Brad Bergesen who has gone 15-4 in AA Bowie. There was speculation the Orioles might shy away from calling up the righty because the Baysox are making a playoff push.
Andy McPhail put an end to that train of thought yesterday by saying, "Bowie is here to serve Baltimore."
It's hard to speculate with these kinds of moves. When Chris Waters was called up in early August to get the start against the Angels, nobody predicted he would be the guy. His name wasn't on the media's radar, but as Dave Trembley said, "He was on our radar."
