Count Luke Scott out for tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Dave Trembley thought he'd be available to pinch hit off the bench, but Luke told me he is not.
The O's designated hitter is still nursing the shoulder he injured on Mother's Day.
Luke told me he took batting practice in the cages today and realized he could not go tonight if called upon late in the game. He said there's still pain in his left shoulder when he does any motion that requires "internal rotation". Swinging a bat requires just that, and Luke said it was especially difficult to fully extend the bat to balls on the outer half of the plate.
Luke will try to hit in the cages again tomorrow in Kansas City. The hope is that pain will subside and he'll be available against the Royals.
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Scott. He was really heating up on the homestand going 6-for-8 with a home run.
Without Luke and possibly Felix Pie (food poisoning), the Orioles could be looking at a two man bench for tonight's game.
