Besides Oakland A's closer Andrew Bailey heading to Beantown, it's been a slow baseball week. Over in the NFL, Pro Bowl selections were announced Tuesday. The Ravens are sending seven players to Hawaii this year: Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Vonte Leach, Ray Rice, Haloti Ngata, Marshal Yanda and Terrell Suggs. Meanwhile, right down Interstate 95, the Redskins aren't sending any. I may be biased, but

While sitting here waiting for the 50,000 calories I've consumed over the past three days to fully convert to fat, I've been thinking back over the many conversations I had with Orioles players, Buck Showalter, scouts and front office personnel over last season. Most of these conversations were just in passing and at the time didn't mean much to me. Now they do, as I'm

Everybody feels reflective at this time of year. It is human nature to look back and take stock of what we did or didn't do with our lives as the calendar turns to another year. I always think back over the big stories I covered over the course of a long baseball season. A handful always stands out in my mind. Here's my list of

Wrapping up a week in which Japanese pitchers dominated Major League Baseball headlines, I've come to one conclusion: Any general manager who pays $100 million plus to bring a Japanese pitcher to the United States is more caught up in making a splash than a smart business decision. As much as I'm a believer in scouting international talent, the smart way to handle the Japanese

Could the Orioles be interested in former Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer? O's Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Dan Duquette isn't going to tip his hand, but the Orioles' name keeps popping up in the rumor mill. Baltimore will be a tough sell for Cuddyer. You have to assume the 32-year-old wants to win a ring before he retires. That's not likely to happen in

Ray Lewis' status for Sunday's game against the Colts listed as questionable - he could sit out his fourth consecutive game with a toe injury. In his absence these last few weeks, we've gotten a brief glimpse of what life might be like for the Ravens without the man who built the franchise. As with all good things, one day Lewis' tenure in the NFL

According to my MASNsports.com colleague Roch Kubatko, the Orioles continue to imply they are not interested in the Prince Fielder sweepstakes. Meanwhile, MLB Network spent all Wednesday morning "hypothetically" listing Seattle and Baltimore as possible Fielder destinations. MLB Network had to get the idea of Fielder going to the Orioles from somewhere. I'm pretty sure they didn't pull it out of thin air. On the

Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette heads to the Winter Meetings this week with hopes of making "smart" moves. It appears "big" moves aren't going to be the O's thing this winter. Teams like the Nationals and Marlins are handling that department. Side note: Am I the only one who thinks the Miami Marlins are way overestimating their 2012 revenues courtesy of

Question for Ravens fans: Do you really think losing to sub-.500 teams is the Ravens' modus operandi this year, or do you believe their three losses to bad teams were all flukes? Depending on your answer to that question, who's nervous for Sunday's game against the 4-7 Cleveland Browns? Don't you just wish the Ravens would hurry up and get to the playoffs, where they
