After beating the Patriots in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, the Ravens have reportedly brought on one of New England's high-ranking coaches.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Ravens have hired Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees to be their linebackers coach.
The team has not yet made an announcement confirming the hiring.
The interesting part of this reported hire is that the Ravens currently have a linebackers coach - Vic Fangio.
The 2009 season was Fangio's first coaching the Baltimore linebackers. He has been with the Ravens since 2006, when he was hired as a special assistant to the head coach/defense.
Pees, meanwhile, spent the last four seasons leading the Pats' defense. In that time, his group finished in the top-11 in team defense all four years and also averaged less than 20 points per game allowed in every season.
The 60-year-old Pees was New England's linebackers coach for two seasons from 2004-2005 and was the head coach at Kent State prior to making the leap to the NFL.
Two weeks ago, Pees announced that he would not seek to renew his expiring contract with that Pats and that he wanted to "pursue other opportunities".
Recently, Pees was rumored to be a top candidate for the Broncos' defensive coordinator job, which would have reunited him with Denver head coach and former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Instead, he reportedly is coming to Baltimore.
If that report is in fact accurate, we'll have to see how this shakes up the rest of the Ravens' coaching staff.
