Already in Indiana for the Combine, John Harbaugh made a little pit stop last night.
The Ravens' head coach went from Indianapolis to Bloomington to catch an Indiana-Wisconsin game, and to watch his brother-in-law, IU coach Tom Crean, in action.
Harbaugh didn't pick the best night for a visit.
Crean was ejected midway through the second half and his squad got thumped by the 17th ranked Badgers, 78-46.
Yikes.
It's now back to work for Harbaugh, who almost certainly will be on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium today to watch the offensive linemen, specialists and tight ends go through the on-field drills.
While most of the focus in the NFL world will be on the Combine, there is still other football news taking place involving players outside of Indy. One headline in particular might impact the Ravens, and surprise, surprise, it concerns a wide receiver.
The latest wideout story comes courtesy of Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris, who announced yesterday that receiver Antonio Bryant (an unrestricted free agent this offseason) is not in the team's plans for 2010.
After posting career-best numbers in 2008 (83 catches, 1,248 yards, 7 TDs) Bryant was designated as the Bucs' franchise player last season. A knee injury limited the soon-to-be 29-year-old to 11 games, in which he made 39 grabs for 600 yards and 4 touchdowns.
I had expected Tampa Bay to keep Bryant around, because, well...they don't really have much else at wideout. Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall and Sammie Stroughter don't exactly give Morris' young quarterback, Josh Freeman, much to work with.
But Morris said the Buccaneers' goal is to get younger at receiver, so the team and Bryant will part ways.
At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, Bryant has decent size and could be a nice fit for the Ravens. No, he's not quite in the same class as Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson or Anquan Boldin, but because Bryant is an unrestricted free agent, the Ravens wouldn't need to give up draft picks to bring him aboard.
Not saying it's going to happen, Bryant's just another name to toss around. And really, that's what this time of the year is good for.
