Let the games begin

OK, so we're still six months away from actual games. But exactly 20 minutes from now, the 2010 free agent period officially gets underway and the offseason madness kicks into high gear.

We should see a couple of the big name unrestricted free agents go off the board very early on, but I'm hearing that there might not be as much action immediately after midnight as there has been in years past.

Part of that could be due to the fact that there are fewer UFAs this year due to the uncapped season; part of it could be due to the fact that this crop of UFAs isn't all that strong.

The Ravens will obviously keep tabs on the market and will have a close watch on wide receivers Derrick Mason and Kevin Walter.

Mason has made it clear that he wants a two-year deal and might draw attention from other teams around the league (the Dolphins, in particular), while Walter will be looking to capitalize on the fact that he's the most sought-after wideout in a thin receiving class.

Also keep on eye on defensive linemen Dwan Edwards and Justin Bannan, two other Ravens who should draw a good bit of interest.

Edwards is a guy the Ravens would like to keep around, if possible.
