Ravens sign Redding

After losing a couple defensive linemen to free agency the last few weeks, the Ravens made an effort to bolster their depth up front today, signing former Seahawks defensive lineman Cory Redding to a two-year contract.

Redding (6-foot-4, 292) has experience playing both defensive end and defensive tackle in his seven-year NFL career, but he might be viewed as the replacement for DE Dwan Edwards, who signed with the Bills last week.

Redding has posted 18 sacks and 220 tackles since entering the league in 2003. The former third-round pick played his first six years with the Lions before being traded to Seattle prior to the 2009 season.

He had 20 tackles and two sacks in 15 games (three starts) last season.

With both Edwards and DT Justin Bannan departing via free agency, the Ravens needed to add some bodies in the trenches.

Redding is the first guy to come aboard.
