In case you missed it, there was a Ravens-related winner at the Oscars last night.
Sandra Bullock, who played Michael Oher's adoptive mother Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side, won the Oscar for Best Actress.
Unfortunately for Ozzie Newsome, there are no rules that give extra draft picks to teams that are linked to Academy Award recipients.
Both Leigh Anne and her husband Sean were in attendance, although Michael chose not to make the trip to Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, I thought I would focus in on a couple of bits and pieces that I failed to touch on amidst all the Anquan Boldin news the last few days.
I put the blame for this lapse in coverage on a poorly-timed trip up to New Jersey which made it tough for me to get near a computer for much of the weekend. Of course, the Boldin trade just happened to be finalized as I was on my way up north, forcing me to punch up my initial post on my BlackBerry from the car.
Boy, was that fun.
Anyway, while the Ravens added a piece to their offensive attack this weekend, they lost a defensive contributor.
Defensive tackle Justin Bannan, who started 15 games two years ago when Kelly Gregg was placed on Injured Reserve, signed a five-year contract with the Broncos. The deal brings the former University of Colorado star back to an area he's familiar with and gives him an opportunity to start as Denver's nose guard.
Another of the Ravens' free agent D-linemen, Dwan Edwards, has drawn interest from the Broncos as well as the Seahawks. The Ravens still would like to bring Edwards back, but the athletic defensive end might find a more lucrative deal elsewhere.
Finally, the Ravens have scheduled a meet-and-greet with cornerback Marlin Jackson for tomorrow. Jackson has also reportedly set up a visit with the Eagles.
The former first-round pick has played in just 11 games the last two years because of multiple serious knee injuries. A restricted free agent this offseason, Jackson was not tendered a contract by the Colts, making him free to sign with any team.
At 6-feet, 196 pounds, Jackson has good size and a high ceiling, but his injury issues have slowed his progress at the NFL level.
The Ravens are looking to improve their depth at cornerback with both Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb coming off torn ACLs.
