With the new draft format, teams had all night to assess where they stand after the first round.
They also had all night, and will have all day today, to make calls to other teams and possibly move around in rounds two and three.
Whether you're looking to trade up or trade down, the new format allows for plenty of dialogue between teams. The expectation is that the phone lines from one war room to another will be pretty active prior to the start of the second round at 6 p.m. tonight.
After yesterday's trade, the Ravens now have the capability to trade down and add more picks, or even trade up and snatch a guy that they feel could step in and be an impact player for them.
As I mentioned earlier, GM Ozzie Newsome says he already has one offer on the table from a team who wants to trade up to Baltimore's 43rd overall pick.
Newsome and director of player personnel Eric DeCosta have said that they expect lots of action leading into Day Two, partly because of the time in between rounds one and two. In fact, Newsome said he wouldn't be surprised if the fireworks start early tonight, possibly even when the Rams are scheduled to kick off the second round with the 33rd overall pick.
"St. Louis is going to be getting a lot of calls," Newsome said. "And if you get overly anxious, you can end up giving up a lot more. They're going to be able to sit there and have an auction, whether they want to pick or someone is going to give up a whole lot more to come up and get that pick."
One thing that the break in between rounds also allows teams to do is reset their boards. That's something that teams do every draft, but one difference is they've never been able to do it this early.
"We are used to adjusting our board, so we'll be able to do it tonight," Newsome said last night at the completion of the first round. "We'll do it tonight before we go home, but then we'll be able to set [and] have all day tomorrow to massage it some more."
