The first minicamp of the 2010 season brought a big potential roster switch, with Michael Oher moving from right tackle to left tackle and Jared Gaither taking his reps at Oher's old spot.
Asked about the move after practice, Gaither seemed willing to acknowledge that the move is more than just a one-day thing.
"It's a task that I'll have to overcome, and it's something that I have to do," Gaither said of the change to right tackle. "I've got an ample amount of time [to learn the position]. Talking to Mike and talking to the coaches, it's something we shouldn't have a problem doing."
Gaither said offensive coordinator Cam Cameron pulled him aside this morning and told him that he would be playing right tackle.
The fourth-year man out of Maryland admitted that until that discussion, he was expecting to line up at his normal left tackle position. He did seem to take the move in stride, however.
"Things change and you have to make adjustments and I'm ready to do that," Gaither said. "Take it full steam ahead the best I can.
"I'm happy to play wherever I'm going to help the offensive line, the offense and the team. I'll play kicker if I can make it on the field."
There have been rumors swirling lately that the Bills might be interested in trading for Gaither because of their hole at left tackle.
That's just one of a number of rumors that have involved Gaither this offseason; the Bills, Redskins, Cowboys, and 49ers have all been mentioned as possible landing spots for the 6-9, 340 pound tackle. Gaither has heard them all, but says the talks haven't bothered him.
"They were rumors, it didn't sway me here or there," he said. "A lot of people talk and a lot of people listen, so it is what it is. You have to just stay focused and be prepared for anything."
Asked about this latest rumor and what he feels the chances are of him staying in Baltimore this year, Gaither smiled.
"Right now, 100 percent," he said. "I don't know anything different."
