The three veteran defensive backs who tried out yesterday for the Ravens - cornerbacks Ken Lucas and Walt Harris and safety Ken Hamlin - all returned to minicamp today for day two of their tryout with the team.
Asked for his thoughts on the three DBs after today's practice, head coach John Harbaugh said he was impressed with what he saw.
"I would say that all three did very well," Harbaugh said. "All three looked like they could play in this league. Veteran corners, a veteran safety that have a lot left in the tank.
What are the chances that the team will sign one or more of the tryout guys?
"I don't know," Harbaugh said. "I'll have to talk with Ozzie [Newsome] this afternoon and see where we're at."
Hamlin, a free safety, could be an option if the Ravens feel that they need some insurance for Ed Reed.
"I'm looking for the right spot and the right fit," Hamlin said today. "I think this would be a great place for me to play. They definitely have a strong group of guys here. You can see it on the field, the defense flying around making plays. It's a good opportunity. We'll see what happens."
At 35-years-old, Harris is the oldest of the group. The 14-year vet is coming off a knee injury which kept him out for the entire 2009 season.
"It's just a matter of coming out here and showing them as well as showing yourself that you still have it and your body feels good," Harris said. "It went well."
Lucas, a 6-0, 205 pound corner, seemed to be the most confident of the three with where he stood after today's practice.
The nine-year veteran talked up the Ravens' defense and their performance as a group today, before stopping himself.
"I'm speaking like I'm on the team already, but I forgot I still have to make it," he said with a smile. "You can't really worry about [what the coaches are thinking]. All you can do is just hope you get the opportunity to play.
"Being a veteran helps out a whole lot, but when they throw 50 defenses at you in one night, you're constantly thinking, 'What do I have on that?'" Lucas said. "But for the most part, I think everybody caught on to the defense pretty well and got a lot more comfortable today. When training camp comes, I'll be in much better shape and knowing what to expect and what to do on this team."
