A Carr update and some quick notes

Chris Carr didn't practice today after leaving yesterday's session with a hamstring injury, but head coach John Harbaugh said that the cornerback shouldn't be out for an extended period of time.

"He was out doing some things today, so he should be fine," Harbaugh said.

Carr opted not to talk about the severity of his injury yesterday after practice. He watched today's afternoon session from the side with a wrap on his left hamstring.

While Carr rested today, cornerback Fabian Washington returned to practice after getting Saturday off. He had been held out of yesterday's session as a precaution because of concerns about testing his surgically-repaired knee on the new turf at M&T Bank Stadium.

Linebacker Tavares Gooden did not participate in today's practice, but he declined to discuss his health while coming off the field. Like Carr, Gooden's situation doesn't appear serious.

"He should be back tomorrow," Harbaugh said. "We'll see, but [it was] precautionary - just give him a day [off] here, so we'll see tomorrow."

It was a plus-30 day today, so a number of the Ravens' veterans got the day off. Todd Heap and Marc Bulger both participated in today's session despite being "of age".

Those who did practice today were in shorts and shells, so there was no hitting. Today might have been the slowest moving practice of camp tempo-wise, which Harbaugh said was by design.

"They're a little sore and a little fatigued," Harbaugh said. "The main thing today was mental, and they did a good job with that.

"The mental part, it's every bit as important [as the physical part of football]. You can't say it's more important; it goes hand in hand. But, you can't play this game if you can't think. And you've got to be able to think quickly on your feet under pressure, and we try to practice to train our guys to be able to do that. It's very important."
