The true beginning of Terrence Cody's NFL career might be slightly delayed.
Cody had knee surgery to repair a tear in his lateral meniscus, and the rookie nose tackle will be out around two weeks, head coach John Harbaugh said today.
Cody's status is uncertain for the Ravens' regular season opener against the Jets on Sept. 13.
"There's a chance he could be back for the opener against the Jets, but with the bigger guys, sometimes it takes a little longer," Harbaugh said. "The plus is we have a lot of depth on the D-line right now. So we'll just have to see how that one goes. That will probably be day-to-day as we get closer to the game."
The second-round pick out of Alabama was off to a fast start this preseason before experiencing some swelling in his knee. Harbaugh said it took doctors a little while to properly diagnose the meniscus tear. There was a loose body floating around in Cody's knee as well.
Cody's injury situation could mean that Brandon McKinney, Kelly Talavou, Lamar Divens or Arthur Jones have a better shot at making the Ravens' 53-man roster.
