D. Williams still absent

The Ravens were having a little bit of fun this morning during their final practice leading up to Saturday's game against the Giants, having their offensive linemen run routes and catch passes from the quarterbacks.

Most of the big guys showed pretty impressive hands, although Chris Chester had a little trouble with a pass on a slant route.

Hit that JUGS machine after practice, Chris.

While the linemen were catching passes this morning, one wide receiver wasn't.

Demetrius Williams said after Saturday's preseason game against the Redskins that the sprained ankle that he suffered that night to keep him out of practices this week.

These practices, Williams reasoned, are crucial for him as he tries to impress the coaching staff and earn a spot on the Ravens' 53-man roster.

Well, four days of practice have now passed since Williams' injury, and he's yet to appear on the practice fields at the Ravens' Owings Mills complex.

Head coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that Williams' ankle was "too gimpy" for him to practice, and it apparently hasn't healed enough since then to allow him to suit up.

In the meantime, Marcus Smith, David Reed and Justin Harper are getting additional reps in Williams' absence.

Other Ravens who were absent today include T Jared Gaither, T Oniel Cousins, G/C David Hale, G/C Daniel Sanders, WR Eron Riley, DT Terrence Cody and DB Marcus Paschal.
