The Ravens are searching for another cornerback, and at least for the time being, they might need more help on the offensive line as well.
Center Matt Birk and tackles Jared Gaither, Oniel Cousins, Tony Moll and Stefan Rodgers are all currently sidelined because of injuries, leaving the Ravens with very few options along the line at this point.
The Ravens made a roster move earlier today to try and bolster their depth up front, waiving wide receiver Rodelin Anthony and re-signing guard/center Daniel Sanders.
Sanders was with the Ravens throughout offseason minicamps before being waived in June.
"The biggest problem is that we're short on numbers," head coach John Harbaugh said. "Dan's a guy who was with us all through the offseason. So he knows how we work, he knows the offense, he's in shape. So we felt like part of the plan was to have guys we could bring back if we needed to, and obviously on the offensive line, we needed to do that."
The Ravens also auditioned three offensive tackles following this morning's practice. The team did not make those players available to reporters after the tryouts.
While we know Birk has an elbow injury, Cousins is recovering from having a cyst removed from his throat and Rodgers has a knee injury, Gaither and Moll's ailments are unknown.
As I mentioned earlier, Gaither will get some blood work done to determine what his status is. Moll, who has now missed the last three sessions since starting at right tackle with the first-team Saturday morning, declined to give any details about what is keeping him off the field.
"I don't know what I can disclose, so I'm sorry," he said.
Asked when he expects to return to practice, Moll simply replied: "As soon as possible."
Despite the run of injuries, left tackle Michael Oher said he doesn't see anything to be concerned about.
"I don't think we have anything major," Oher said. "I think guys are day-to-day, they can come back at any time. But you've got to just be aware of certain things and just make sure guys are 100 percent. I think we'll be full strength come the first preseason game."
UPDATED: The Ravens have announced that they've signed offensive tackle Devin Tyler.
Tyler, who checks in at 6-7, 305 pounds, is from Forestville, MD and played his college ball at Temple. He was one of the three players that the Ravens tried out today.
The team also placed cornerback Domonique Foxworth on Injured Reserve.
