Prince adds a new member to the castle

Prince Miller came into training camp trying to earn a job to support himself and his girlfriend.

Now, the undrafted rookie cornerback is trying to support himself, his girlfriend, and his baby daughter.

Miller became a father on Sunday when his girlfriend gave birth to their first child, Nyla Imani Miller. The Ravens gave the rookie the last two days off so he could head home and be there for Nyla's birth.

Today, Miller was back at practice, and while he probably would have preferred to be spending more time with his family, he said he knew that by returning to Westminster, he was investing in his daughter's future.

"I was fortunate to get the time I had," Miller said. "Just coming back and getting to work, it's a bittersweet situation. You want to be there with your child and you also want to be able to provide for your child, too. So, you've got to go back to work."

It was actually a big day for Miller in Westminster today, as he got the opportunity to line up at nickel back with the first-team defense.

With Chris Carr and K.J. Gerard still out with hamstring injuries, Miller got a handful of reps alongside Fabian Washington and Travis Fisher in the secondary.

Head coach John Harbaugh said that Miller will also see a lot of reps in Thursday's preseason opener, a game in which Washington, Carr and Gerard are all unlikely to play.

"It's going to be a great opportunity," Miller said. "I'm just going to handle it the best way I can, just go out and play hard."

Initially a long-shot to make the Ravens' roster, Miller now has a more realistic chance thanks to some hard work and a bunch of injuries.

He says he's going to keep working hard, while thinking about his daughter every day.

"This right here is what's going to pave the future for her," Miller said. "So I just tried to get back and do my best to make this team."
