Rex Ryan did a lot of talking this week.
You might have heard.
But when the clock hit triple zeros tonight, the Ravens were the ones who were able to do the talking about the quality of their football team.
"It felt great to beat 'em," linebacker Terrell Suggs said. "I think we showed who the No. 1 defense is. [Ryan] knows the caliber of players in this locker room. We knew we had a job to do. He was just trying to fire up his team. You got to commend a man for that. He wanted them ready to fight, and they were ready to fight. But the better team won."
Linebacker Jarret Johnson had a few choice words of his own for not just the Jets, but the rest of the league as well.
"It seems like every time a team wants to play us, we beat their asses," Johnson said. "Teams had better stop calling us out. Hey, if you want to fight, we'll fight."
The Ravens allowed only 176 total yards on the day, and only 60 yards through the air. The Jets, meanwhile, held Ray Rice and the rushing game in check, but gave up 282 total yards and let the Ravens hold a dominating 17 minute edge in time of possession.
That gave Suggs plenty of trash talking ammunition during the game, which he didn't pass up.
"I was letting [Ryan] know he had to deal with me," Suggs said. "This is the beast he created and now he'll have to deal with me. He said he wasn't going to back down either, and I expect nothing less from Rex Ryan. I love the guy to death. But we came here and we got one tonight."
After the game, Ray Lewis said he didn't have words with Ryan at any point before, during or after the game. He didn't feel like he needed to.
He declined a chance to take a swipe at his former defensive coordinator to reporters in the locker room, but admitted that it felt good to come away with the bragging rights.
"I respect that guy too much, we won a Super Bowl together and everything," Lewis said of Ryan, "but every time you challenge a warrior, a warrior is going to always respond."
