Not exactly an ideal start

Through the first quarter of play tonight, the Ravens have done nothing.

Well, that's not true. They've done something, just nothing good.

Defensively, the Ravens' second-teamers, who got the start tonight, allowed Rams quarterbacks to go a perfect 11-for-11 for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

After 15 minutes, the Ravens trail 14-0.

To be fair, the Rams had their first-team offense on the field for the opening drive, when they marched 75 yards in 10 plays for the opening score.

But regardless of who was on the field, the Ravens did not show well defensively in the first quarter.

Inside linebacker Jason Phillips was burned twice in coverage, and cornerbacks Cary Williams and Travis Fisher each allowed big plays through the air as well.

Offensively, the Ravens picked up just one first-down, and struggled to get anything going.

There is plenty of time for the guys battling for roster spots to turn things around, but this is not the way that John Harbaugh and his coaching staff wanted to start the preseason finale.
