The Ravens had hoped to retain undrafted rookie cornerback Prince Miller as a member of their practice squad after waiving him on Sunday.
It wasn't to be.
Miller was offered a spot on the Patriots' practice squad, and he's decided to take it. This means that the Ravens still have one open spot on their practice squad.
Don't be surprised if the team finds another available cornerback for that final developmental spot.
The last few days have been a rollercoaster ride for Miller. Saturday morning, he was reportedly told by the Ravens that he was going to be among their final round of roster cuts. Later that day, Miller was informed that he was not being cut, and had, in fact, made the Ravens' 53-man roster.
A day later, the Ravens opted to sign former Cowboys cornerback Bryan McCann to their active roster, and Miller was the odd man out. He was put on waivers Sunday afternoon.
This whole "You're in. No, wait, you're out" routine happens often in the NFL, especially with young players who are on the fringe of the roster. Teams will set their 53-man roster, then scan the waiver wire for possible improvements. Assuming they find one, they have cut someone who had initially made the team.
The Ravens made a push to re-sign Miller to their practice squad after he cleared waivers yesterday, but he opted to go elsewhere. It's possible the last couple days left the rookie with a little bit of a bad taste in his mouth toward the Ravens' organization. All the ups and downs might have been too much to take.
But, as you hear all the time, the NFL is a tough business. Miller learned that the hard way over the last few days.
