Run defense takes a hit for Jets game

Terrence Cody is a week removed from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, and while the Ravens' rookie nose tackle feels like he's making progress in his rehab, he says he won't be able to suit up in the regular season opener against the Jets next Monday.

"I'll probably be back for the second game," Cody said. "It's too soon to be able to go this week."

The Ravens will miss the burly, run-stuffing nose tackle on Monday night. They'll be facing a team that led the NFL in rushing last year, posting an average of 172 yards of offense on the ground every week.

Cody would be a big help in slowing down Jets running backs Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson, but unfortunately for the Ravens, the Alabama product will be stuck on the sidelines.

It won't be easy for Cody to miss the opening game of his NFL career, but he knows he needs to take his recovery slow and make sure he comes back fully healthy.

"It's tough for me right now," he said. "I can't do too much. It's going well, I'm doing range of motion stuff and doing a good pace on the bike. I'm working it back nice and easy. It's frustrating, but you can't rush it and make it worse."
