Stallworth aiming for quick recovery

Doctors have told Donte' Stallworth he'll be out around eight weeks after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

Stallworth is shooting to return to the field in half that time.

"The doctor that did my surgery, he told me there was one crazy guy who came back in four weeks and that guy is Jeremy Shockey," Stallworth said. "We all know him. That's my classmate, 2002. I called him and asked him what was he doing to get back.

"I got a couple tips from him, so hopefully, I'll be back before the eight weeks that the doctors first said."

Stallworth got one screw inserted into his foot during the surgery, which he said was similar to an operation he had while in college. His cast has been replaced by a walking boot and crutches, and while he's still a little ways off from starting to run around and test the foot out again, he said he's feeling good.

"I just got my boot on today and I'm able to put some pressure on it, put a little body weight on it," he said. "Obviously, I want to be back fast, but you got to be smart with it at the same time. I'm taking all the precautions I can to make sure that I can keep it healthy and at the same time be back sooner than all the doctors initially thought. I'm trying to get back and stay abreast of everything with the gameplan and everything. I feel pretty good."

The eight-year veteran admitted that the injury has been tough on him, considering how hard he worked to get back into football shape and learn the Ravens' system during the offseason and training camp.

Instead of joining his teammates on the field Monday night for what would have been his first regular season game action in 21 months, Stallworth will be stuck on the sidelines for at least a few more weeks.

"I'm looking for Frankenstein's doctor," Stallworth quipped. "I got to find him because he got him back within 24 hours, so I've got to find that doctor. No, I'm smiling, but it's pretty frustrating. It will be even more frustrating once Monday night comes around."
