Coming off a loss to the Patriots in which the Ravens picked up only three first downs in their final five possessions of the game and failed to earn a potential game-clinching score, the offense has been a hot-button topic inside and outside of Ravens headquarters this week.
There have been reports of a meeting between offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and quarterback Joe Flacco to discuss a possible conflict in play-calling, reports that the Ravens have started to get worried that Flacco's development has stalled, and reports that the Ravens have taken some decision-making out of Flacco's hands and have been telling the quarterback where to throw the football.
Cameron responded to a bunch of that talk today in his first meeting with the media since the loss to the Pats on Sunday.
About a reported meeting between Cameron and Flacco to work out differences in play-calling: "There was no big meeting with me and Joe," Cameron said. "There was a conversation between me and Joe after every game like there always is. And that's exactly what I said - because I believe it - I said, 'Joe, I could have helped you better. I could have helped you better at times in that game.' That's my job. My job is to help the quarterback as much as I can to help this offense. And Joe said to me, 'No, I could have done a better job.'
"And that's the relationship that you have with your quarterback. The coordinator feels like he can do a better job, and the quarterback thinks he can do a better job. And that's how you become a great offense. That's what's going to make us special."
As for the thought that the Ravens have been telling Flacco where to throw the football in certain situations as compared to letting him go through his reads, Cameron said that isn't true.
"That has not been done," Cameron said. "We don't do that. Joe knows how to read defenses. He knows he has multiple options. To my knowledge, it's inaccurate because it didn't come from me. I know it didn't come from Jim [Zorn, quarterbacks coach].
"In no way shape or form I don't think anybody is doing that."
Cameron repeatedly expressed confidence in Flacco, who has statistically posted four solid games in a row since throwing four interceptions against the Bengals back in Week 2.
"I know this - he's getting better every day," Cameron said. "There's no ceiling for that guy with the group that we have."
