It took about a week and a half, but John Harbaugh finally paid up.
The Ravens' head coach showed up to this afternoon's press conference sporting a yellow and green "I Love my Ducks" Oregon T-shirt as well as a yellow duck whistle, which was his payment for losing a bet with rookie tight end Ed Dickson.
The two had placed a wager on the Oregon-Stanford football game two weeks ago. An Oregon alum, Dickson had bet Harbaugh (whose brother Jim coaches the Cardinal) that the loser would have to wear a jersey or T-shirt featuring the winning team's colors.
Harbaugh walked up to the podium flanked by Dickson (pictured on the left) and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, another Oregon alum who won a cash bet with Harbaugh.
"Congratulations, Ed," Harbaugh said to his tight end as he reached the podium. "It's pretty impressive. We'll probably see you in the national championship game."
The delay in Harbaugh wearing the Oregon shirt wasn't his own fault; Dickson had specially ordered the "I Love my Ducks" shirt, and it didn't arrive until late last week. Dickson wanted to make sure that his head coach wore the special Oregon threads in front of reporters and TV cameras.
"I'll make sure he has it on and you guys will be ready for it," Dickson had said last week.
Immediately after Dickson and Ngata walked away, Harbaugh tossed the yellow whistle aside, grabbed a Ravens sweatshirt, and put it on over the Oregon T-shirt.
"Let's get back to business," Harbaugh said with a laugh. "And now about the Ravens."
