Holding the ball at the Broncos' one-yard-line, the Ravens opted to go for it on fourth down.
They lost the ball on downs after Joe Flacco was brought down for a sack back at the 15-yard-line, and they nearly lost Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to an injury as well.
Ngata was in as an eligible receiver on fourth down, and ran a route to the back of the end zone. He was Flacco's primary target on the play.
As he turned to look back at his quarterback, Ngata appeared to collide with Broncos safety Darcel McBath, and both men fell to the turf awkwardly.
Ngata stayed down for a couple minutes and slowly walked to the sideline with trainers by his side. He was shaking out his left leg, but after sitting out a few defensive plays, he returned to action on a Denver third down play.
McBath had to be carted off the field with an ankle injury, and he will not return today.
The Ravens like lining Ngata up as an extra fullback or an eligible receiver in goal line or short yardage plays, but this is the risk that they take. Having their Pro Bowl defensive tackle in on offense leaves him more vulnerable to injuries.
They're lucky that Ngata appeared to escape a serious ailment this time.
