The Dolphins lost their top two quarterbacks to injuries this last Sunday in a game against the Titans, and as a result, they had to turn to third-stringer Tyler Thigpen to finish the game.
Under similar circumstances, the Ravens would rely on ... Anquan Boldin?
Yup. The Ravens only have two quarterbacks on their active roster, meaning if both Joe Flacco and backup Marc Bulger were to get injured in a game, head coach John Harbaugh would have Boldin, a Pro Bowl wide receiver, step in under center.
Boldin played quarterback in high school, and was pretty darn impressive, completing 133-of-233 passes for 2,482 yards and 36 touchdowns his senior year.
So, how does Boldin look when he gets a chance to fling the ball around in practice?
"Oh, he's dynamic, he's dynamite," Harbaugh said, smiling. "He's zipping it all around. He shreds our defense on a regular basis."
Boldin is a perfect 1-for-1 passing on the season, but his completion went for minus-six yards. His quarterback rating can't be too high after that.
Sports Illustrated has sent out the results of their latest players poll, which asked guys around the league to vote on who they think is the smartest player in the NFL.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning won in a landslide, taking 62 percent of the vote. Saints QB Drew Brees came in second at eight percent, while two Ravens - Ray Lewis and Ed Reed - each got four percent of the vote. Steelers safety Troy Polamalu got four percent as well.
Meanwhile, the Steelers made a somewhat surprising move today, cutting kicker Jeff Reed, and signing Shaun Suisham.
Reed was in his ninth year with Pittsburgh and was named the Steelers' franchise player this season, guaranteeing him a $2.8 million salary for the year. He had gone just 15-of-22 on field goal attempts this season, however, and after he missed a 26-yarder on Sunday, the Steelers decided to cut Reed loose.
I'll always remember talking with Reed while down in Tampa for Super Bowl media week two seasons ago.
He had died his hair blonde, grown it out, and spiked it up into somewhat of a weird Jersey Shore blowout. Reed seemed like a nice enough guy, but was a little bizarre.
Now, the quirky kicker will have to look for a new job, and Suisham will have to learn how to kick in Heinz Field, known as one of the most difficult NFL stadiums in which to kick.
