You think the Cardinals regret not ponying up a little extra cash for Marc Bulger this offseason?
Arizona got embarrassed on Monday Night Football last night by Troy Smith, Brian Westbrook (yes, he's still in the NFL) and the 49ers in a game that was so boring and sloppy that if you actually watched it to the end, you deserve a medal.
Either that or a smack upside the head. One of the two.
Afterwards, Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson sounded off in his postgame interview, which is worth a look if you haven't already seen it. The former Ravens quarterback has been less than stellar this season, and it makes you wonder how Arizona would be faring if they had Bulger, who they were rumored to be interested in this offseason, under center.
Guess we'll never know.
One other thing we don't know is whether the Ravens will have two-time Pro Bowl fullback Le'Ron McClain in uniform when they take on the Steelers this Sunday night.
McClain suffered a sprained left ankle in the Ravens' win over the Buccaneers two days ago, and was in a boot after the game. Head coach John Harbaugh declined to give an update on McClain's status yesterday - or anyone else's for that matter - but if the fullback isn't able to play against Pittsburgh, the Ravens will be in a little bit of a bind.
They don't have a backup fullback on the roster, which means that, as they did in the second half against the Bucs, they'll need to adjust some personnel groupings and responsibilities.
"The [fullback] position is a lot of positions," Harbaugh said. "It's fullback, it's a wing, it's a balanced two-by-two formation, it's 'trips,' it's a movement position. Le'Ron does all those things. Obviously, you do the things with the position that the guy does best.
"Two of our other running backs can play fullback, so we've got some other options. When you've got a week to prepare for that possibility, we'll have more things up this week."
The running backs Harbaugh alludes to are the 6-0, 235-pound Willis McGahee and the 5-11, 222-pound Jalen Parmele, neither of whom packs the punch that McClain does at 6-0, 260.
After McClain went down against Tampa Bay, a lot of the extra weight fell on the shoulders of rookie tight end Dennis Pitta, and the BYU product could be used in a similar type H-back role again this Sunday if McClain is out.
"I've been doing a lot of both positions, and so with Le'Ron being down, obviously that will kind incorporate the tight ends into the mix a little bit more," Pitta said after Sunday's game. "We'll see what we have up for this week, but we anticipate to be in it a little bit more.
"We don't have a backup fullback, so I think I get kind of thrown into that role a little bit. But, we'll see how the coaches want to handle it this next week and the gameplan they put together."
If McClain isn't able to play on Sunday, the Ravens won't just be without their only fullback, they'll be without one of their more physical players on offense.
Against a tough Steelers front-seven in what promises to be an incredibly hard-hitting game, that would leave Pitta, McGahee, Parmele and others needing to bring their hard hats to M&T Bank Stadium this weekend.
