Some hardware for Ngata

It wasn't the finest game of his season.

In fact, it wasn't even close.

But Haloti Ngata's performance in Sunday's 26-10 win over the Dolphins was enough to earn the Ravens' defensive tackle AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ngata posted four tackles and had a sack in the win.

It's a far cry from his seven-tackle, two-sack effort in the Ravens' Week 6 loss to the Patriots. And Sunday's effort certainly didn't match Ngata's ridiculous 11-tackle, one-sack performance against the Steelers back in Week 4.

But, an award is an award, and I'm sure Ngata will take it.

It's been a big season for the Ravens' Pro Bowler, who has posted 44 tackles and five sacks. The sack total already is a career high for Ngata, who has always been a run-stuffer but has really started to evolve into an impressive pass rusher from his inside position.

He's on line for a second straight Pro Bowl appearance if he keeps this play up, and is even getting some MVP talk from SI.com's Peter King.

Oh, and in case any of you had forgotten, Ngata is in a contract year. Ravens fans can only hope that GM Ozzie Newsome will be backing a Brinks truck (or two) up to Ngata's house sometime this offseason.
