Robert Andino was sent to the minor leagues at the end of Spring Training to make room on the roster for utility player Julio Lugo. Since then, Andino has been called up and has played in a utility role for Buck Showalter. Andino has made an impression on the O's manager and may be making a case for a spot on the roster in ... read more

Dave recently took some time to answer questions from Jim Hunter and Rick Dempsey during MASN's O's Xtra pregame show, where he shared his thoughts on the Orioles' new closer, Alfredo Simon, who is 14-16 since taking over the role for the O's. The former pitcher also gave his take on Brian Matusz's struggles recently, including the basic keys for a pitcher to succeed ... read more

With the O's needing a starter for Saturday, Dave talked with Amber Theoharis about the Birds' options and the likelihood of Brad Bergesen getting the nod. Dave also touched on who might get sent down if the O's do, in fact, make a roster move and call up a starter from the minors, and he gave his thoughts on Garrett Atkins' future in Baltimore. ... read more

I have said many times that you should not give up on starting pitchers too soon. The hardest thing to find and the most expensive thing to buy is starting pitching. It's also the most fragile part of your team. That's why I feel you should not give up too soon on your young arms. It takes awhile for some guys to figure it ... read more

Less than a year after Tommy John Surgery, he was back on the mound throwing 96-97 mph fastballs. That's incredible. Some think that anybody can close. Not true. It takes a certain type of pitcher to ... read more

It sure is nice to see the starting staff go deep into games with regularity. We really have seen the Orioles starters pitch well. With the exception of Bergy's first three starts, the starters have been pretty good. I know Hernandez has had a couple bad ones in there and Guthrie had one too. But, nobody is going 34-0 for the season on anybody's ... read more

Okay, let's not print the playoff tickets yet. But, it sure was nice seeing some good starting pitching and defense this weekend. Oh, did I forget to mention the offense, which has been so offensive this year? It sure was nice to get all three against Boston and four of the six games on the homestand. I left Camden Yards yesterday with my chest ... read more
