With a four-run first inning yesterday, the Nats posted multi-run first innings in four of the six games during the homestand for a total of 11 runs in the first. The Nats took batting practice again Sunday even though it was a day game after a night game.
“It’s a fundamentals thing Manny preaches to us,” hitting coach Lenny Harris told me before the game. “We have a young team and hopefully these guys can get basic skills down and go out there and stay sharp.”
He also added bp on Sundays to keep guys hungry and on top. Harris said he’s happy to see the young kids playing so hard. He also continues to tell his players to relax and enjoy the game every day because you don’t know when it will be your last one.
On the mend...
Ryan Zimmerman, Cristian Guzman and Elijah Dukes are all listed as day-to-day. The swelling in Ryan’s hand continues to go down and he’s feeling better.
Guzman had a special glove made from Easton with a rubber insert to help his injured hand. He had to send it back to the company to alter it a bit, but hopefully that will help alleviate some of the pain in his hand.
