Some News and Notes from Viera...

Julian Tavarez is in the Dominican Republic today trying to obtain his work visa. Once he does that he should be in camp tomorrow to workout and get back on track.

Manny Acta told us in his pre-game visit that Dimitri Young looked good in a minor league game and that Jesus Flores hit yesterday and will play Saturday.

The team will head north with 7 relievers and 4 starters. The extra player will be a position player.

The team’s overload in the outfield will likely mean more playing time for Willie Harris in the infield this year. Acta appreciates what Harris brings to the team and is looking forward to Harris being more of a role model this season with the younger players. The Nats skipper said Harris can mentor Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes and he hopes Willie will be more proactive in that role.

What a nice sight seeing Nick Johnson come through with a couple of hits last night against the Braves.

His health is like having a new addition to the team. The big first baseman is a quiet leader but a true professional who has really worked hard to get back on the field.

He’s also a new Daddy this spring and has enjoyed his new baby, Jr.
