There is a definite feeling of renewed enthusiasm around the ballpark here in Viera, Florida.
Players are competing for spots and now with the resignation of Jim Bowden as the team's General Manager, front office folks are competing to show the Nationals brass the team can be run effectively.
Mike Rizzo and Bob Boone have been Jim Bowden's right hand men over the last couple of years.
Rizzo will be overseeing the team in terms of wheeling and dealing. He deserves a chance to be the team's GM and hopefully in the coming weeks and months he'll show ownership that he is the perfect fit for the role.
Rizzo's scouting and development background is just what this young team needs to grow and continue to improve, and his track record speaks for itself. From signing White Sox slugger Frank Thomas when he was with Chicago to finding Brandon Webb while with Arizona, he's done a great job of evaluating talent. He also has a knack for knowing when to keep a player and when to use a player in a trade, which will be especially valuable for the Nationals as they continue to rebuild.
