West coast swing...
Adam Dunn told me after the Nats took two out of three from the Diamondbacks in Arizona that he couldn't remember the last time a team he was on won a series out west.
It's a tough thing to do and the Nats should be proud of the way they battled against Arizona. We know the Nats bullpen was the weak link on Sunday, but give acting GM Mike Rizzo credit for doing everything he can to upgrade Manny Acta's relief corps.
How do you spell relief?
Don't be surprised if Jesus Colome rejoins the club later this month. He's throwing very well for Syracuse and he could contribute.
Rizzo has already given the bullpen a facelift to make it more experienced. The veterans out there are not afraid to pitch and that's a big improvement immediately.
Something special brewing with #11...
After Sunday's game, several of Ryan Zimmerman's teammates told me they know they're watching something special.
Zimmerman is halfway to Joe DiMaggio record-setting 56-game hitting streak.
Diamondbacks infielder Mark Reynolds, who played college ball with Zim at Virginia, told me he's not surprised by Ryan's consistency at the plate. He said Ryan has talent coupled with a laid back personality and that will help him as the hitting streak continues.
