Dream Foundation Gala a Hit!
It's not very often you get an entire baseball team to attend a charitable dinner together.
Well, Saturday night at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort and Convention Center the Nationals did just that.
The fourth annual Dream Gala started with a cocktail reception and silent auction that was followed by a dinner program and live auction.
The theme of the night was "Answer The Call to Service in Our Communities." Manny Acta and his players certainly did that Saturday night. The players were very cordial as they mingled with their dedicated fans.
Front office personnel also enjoyed the evening. It was fun to see the players decked out in their tuxedos and joined by their glamorous wives and girlfriends. Finally they were able to enjoy themselves after a win - thanks to an outstanding pitching performance by Shairon Martis who threw a complete game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Dream Foundation Chair Marla Lerner Tanenbaum told me that despite the tough economic times, the Dream Foundation has been able to raise money for some outstanding causes including the creation of the Washington Nationals Pediatric Diabetes Care Complex at Children's NationalMedicalCenter.
How impressive is it that newcomer Josh Willingham has already made a visit to the hospital? He and his wife Ginger are both eager to give back to the community. Ginger said it's an opportunity for her and her husband to make a difference and she's also looking forward to participating in more community relations events as the Nationals First Ladies lend a helping hand.

Wil the Thrill!
This weekend Nats catcher Wil Nieves and his lovely wife Yormarie celebrated their fifth anniversary. So what did Wil do?
On Friday night he had flowers delivered to Yormarie's seat in the middle of the game!
He also had a message on the scoreboard for her. Now, that's really hitting a home run.
