Nats skipper Jim Riggleman keeps the lines of communication open with his players and they appreciate his open door policy. Jim talks to the guys before, during and after the games. The conversations can be about baseball strategy or they might not even pertain to the game at all. Being able to talk to the manager is something the players do with ease. They

This weekend, Nationals closer Matt Capps and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman made a visit to the Children's National Medical Center where the Nationals Dream Foundation has dedicated $2 million toward the Children's Diabetes Care Complex. On Sunday, Dr. Fran Cogen told me it meant so much to the children and staff there to have the players visit. It was remarkable to everyone there how

Nats veteran starter Livan Hernandez may not have earned a win on Thursday afternoon, but he pitched well enough for his team to win. The Nats were up against one of - if not the best - pitchers in the game in Ubaldo Jimenez. The Rockies pitcher was coming off a no-hitter against the Braves and he continued to dominate National League East opponents.

Nationals welcome American heroes Astronaut Colonel Terry Virts, STS-130 Pilot for the Endeavor (February 8-21, 2010), returned home and visited the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Jim Riggleman said before the Nats' 8-0 win over the Brewers on Saturday that winning validates the team's feeling that they can beat their opponents. The fact that Washington GM Mike Rizzo has brought in players with post-season experience and proven track records has made a major difference. For the younger players to be able to catch a glimpse of the 2009 World Series

Craig Stammen spent his day off on Tuesday in Philadelphia trying to relax and enjoy the City of Brotherly Love before rain spoiled the idea of soaking up the city. The Nats starter will be facing a Phillies lineup that is so tenacious and troublesome. On Monday, the Phils came back from a four run deficit to beat the Nats in their home opener.

Cristian Guzman admitted it feels "different" to play second base and it's something that will take time for him to adjust to. Although the veteran played some second base late during spring training, he told me it's not the same as in the regular season. Cristian has been working hard before games taking extra ground balls, but nothing beats the real thing. He credited

After Thursday's 6-5 win over the defending National League Champion Phillies, Willie Harris was sporting a silver colored plastic wig that looked a lot like something Elvis would wear. Actually the getup was something Nyjer Morgan had worn as a costume. The wig will be worn by the designated "Player of the Game" after every Nationals win. On Thursday, Willie Harris wore it well

Pudge leading the way... The Nats are enjoying their first season with future Hall of Famer Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. The 38-year-old catcher not only brings a wealth of experience to the ballclub but he is a true leader. If you look at his track record he is a proven winner, too. He won a World Series Championship in 2003 leading the Marlins with a
