It's time to say 'so long' to Viera.
This is the final week that the Nationals will be in Florida before heading home for Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.
I've been at spring training since Thursday, and the weather has been great, up until Sunday when it rained off and on; but the ballclub was still able to get in their game with the Marlins down in Jupiter.
Friday night I took in the game at Port St Luice against the Mets. New York played most of their regulars, but Washington didn't, and it was the Mets with a victory.
Saturday it was back at Viera, where I had the opportunity to say hello to Manager Manny Acta, visit with Wil Nieves, Shairon Martis, Lastings Milledge and Roger Bernadina - to mention just a few of the Nats who are counting the days until the season gets underway.
I had the pleasure of sitting alongside acting GM Mike Rizzo for Saturday's game against the Houston Astros and was impressed with the performance of Scott Olsen, the former Marlin.
Olsen will follow John Lannan as the Opening Day starter in Manny Acta's five-man rotation. Daniel Cabrera is penciled in as ther 3rd starter, followed by Shairon Martis. Jordan Zimmerman will be the 5th starter, but he'll start the season in the minors.
By the way, Ray Knight and I will be at the ballpark for Saturday's exhibition game aganst the O's; so stop by our new Nats Xtra set at Nats Park and say hi!!!
