I wish I was getting ready to travel with the Maryland Terrapins to Glendale Arizona for the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. But I'm not and nor is the team. The Memphis Tigers took care of that Saturday in Kansas City.
After watching the Tigers, it would not surprise me to see them in the final four in Detroit. My hat is off to Gary Williams for one of his best coaching jobs in the 20 years he's been at his alma mater in College Park.
The Terps finished with 21 victories, among the most impressive, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Michigan State, Miami, and Michigan. Mark my words Maryland will be even better next season!.
For the next six months you and I get to enjoy Baseball...Washington Nationals Baseball.
Now that manager Manny Acta has named Lastings Milledge to be his lead off man, it will be interesting to see how that works out.
No question Lastings has the speed and a quick bat, and to quote Manny, "hopefully patience at the plate."
It would set the table nicely for the likes of Guzman, Zimmerman, Dunn and company to get the Nats some early runs, an area that was severely lacking last season.
It's nice to see that Shawn Hill has landed a job, albeit it a non guaranteed deal with the San Diego Padres. I wish him well.
And if you are want to keep someone in your prayers, I suggest you might want to include former Nat Aaron Boone, now with the Houston Astros, who is scheduled to undergo open heart surgury to correct an aortic valve problem.
At age 36, Aaron is not certain if he will ever play again, though I hope he does. Baseball needs more players that spell class, just like Aaron Boone.
