To lose to the team in baseball with the most wins is nothing to be ashamed about.
But it was the way the Nationals got swept by the Florida Marlins that really got under Manager Manny Acta's skin.
So much so that there will be two new faces along with two familiar ones on the Washington mound staff beginning Monday.
The bullpen simply has not been getting the job done...how 'bout an era of 6.48!! I rest my case.
During his postgame meeting with the media after Sunday's 7-4 loss to Florida, a game that saw the Marlins score four runs in the 9th to win their 3rd straight from the Nationals, the Washington skipper showed us all, he'd had it with some players who were not getting the job done.
Optioned to Triple-A Syracuse were Saul Rivera who suffered through that 9th inning along with Catcher Josh Bard. Designated for assignment were two other relievers, Steven Shell and Will Ledezma.
Jordan Zimmermann will be called up from Syracuse to make his major league debut starting against the Atlanta Braves.
Also heading back to DC from Syracuse will be Jason Bergmann and Garrett Mock.
Reliever Kip Wells is the 4th player to be called up. All four pitchers are righthanders.
Like Manny said, if these guys can't get it done, we will continue to bring players up until we finally get the right guys who can prove they belong in Washington.
I like Manny's approach. I think he got the players' attention. Hopefully the new guys can settle things down and be productive. Things sure can't get any worse can they?
