Monday was an off day for the ballclub, so I took my clubs and went over to Norbeck CC to play in the 4th annual St. Ann's infant home/Michelle Heidenberger Memorial Golf Tournament.
It's something I always look forward to, visiting with Sr Mary Bader, the home's administrator and one-time classmate of my daugher, Dr. Kellie Smaldore, at Georgetown Visitation. We get in 18 holes, and then I emcee the dinner afterwards .
And there was plenty of Nats talk at the event.
Is the clock ticking for Manny? Will he stay, will he go? - All the type of discussions that seem to be picking up steam these days.
I can tell you one thing for sure, no one at this golf tournament wants a change. Manny received overwhelming support from this group, and it's a feeling that is shared by many.
But this is a scenario that will play out with neither you nor I involved in the decision making. And that's the way it should be.
What this club needs are a whole bunch of wins, starting with the Yankees series in the Bronx Tuesday night.
There are 101 games to play and what I would like to see is the hitting catch up with the pitching. Seems like we just can't get both on the same page at the same time. Wins make managers look good. Let's start getting some for Manny.
One other note...
Good news for Terps fans--Greivis Vasquez will be returning for his senior season at Maryland. Greivis withdrew his name from the upcoming NBA draft and it was a good decision. With Vasquez staying in school, the Terps return four starters and seven of their eight top scorers from last season.
