Lou Montanez designated for assignment
The Orioles today announced that they have added three players to their roster from Triple-A Norfolk, recalling OF Nolan Reimold and INF Brandon Snyder and selecting the contract of INF Robert Andino. To make room for Andino on the 40-man roster, OF Lou Montanez was designated for assignment.
Reimold batted .320 (31-97) with six doubles, two home runs, a .460 on-base percentage and .443 slugging percentage in the month of August and had reached base safely in 40 of his last 42 games. He hit .249 (84-337) with 10 home runs and 37 RBI in 94 games overall for the Tides. He appeared in 29 games with the Orioles at the beginning of the season, hitting .205 (17-83) with two home runs and 10 RBI before being optioned to Norfolk on May 12. Reimold has a .265 (117-441) average in 133 games with the Orioles over the last two years.
Snyder hit .257 (87-339) with nine home runs and 43 RBI in 98 games for Norfolk, including .353 (30-85) with a 1.034 OPS against left-handers. He missed over a month of the season (June 18-July 23) with a back injury and hit .284 (31-109) with four home runs and 15 RBI after returning from the disabled list. The Orioles’ first round draft pick (13th overall) in 2005, Snyder will make his major league debut.
Andino batted .306 (59-193) with 15 extra-base hits, 29 runs and 23 RBI since the All-Star break. He ranked among International League leaders in at-bats (1st, 546); hits (2nd, 144); games played (2nd, 132); total bases (T-4th, 221); runs (6th, 72) and RBI (6th, 76). He batted .264 (144-546) for the Tides, joining the club on April 7 after being designated for assignment by the Orioles on April 3. Andino has batted .213 (73-342) in 157 games over parts of five major league seasons with the Florida Marlins and Orioles.
Montanez hit .223 (56-251) in 93 games over parts of the last three seasons with the Orioles, including .140 (8-57) in 26 games in 2010.
Andino will wear uniform #12, Reimold will wear #14 and Snyder will wear #58.
