Nationals add RHP Adam Carr, RHP Cole Kimball & 1B Chris Marrero to roster

RHP Juan Jaime claimed off outright waivers by Diamondbacks

The Washington Nationals today selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Adam Carr and Cole Kimball and first baseman Chris Marrero. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Juan Jaime was claimed off outright waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Nationals Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

Carr went 6-2 with 14 saves and a 2.75 ERA in 52 relief appearances last season with Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League and Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. The 26-year-old went 6-1 with five saves and a 3.04 ERA with Harrisburg, earning recognition as an Eastern League All-Star. Carr is 1-0 with one save and a 2.08 ERA in 10 appearances in the prestigious Arizona Fall League.

Kimball, 25, went 8-1 with 18 saves and a 2.17 ERA with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League and Harrisburg during the 2010 campaign. He posted 11.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (101 K/78.2 IP) in 57 contests. In 11 Arizona Fall League appearances, Kimball has one save with 15 strikeouts and an impressive 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings.

Marrero, the Nationals' first-round (15th overall) selection in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, batted .294 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs and 82 RBI in 141 contests last season with Harrisburg. An Eastern League All-Star in 2010, the 22-year-old posted .350 on-base and .450 slugging percentages and finished among the league's leaders with 154 hits (fourth), 236 total bases (fifth) and 82 RBI (tied for ninth). In 18 games with Ponce of the Puerto Rican Winter League, Marerro is batting .329 with four doubles and 14 RBI.

Jaime, 23, did not pitch in 2010 after undergoing Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery during Spring Training.
