The Orioles today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie.
Hammel, 29, is 34-45 with a 4.99 ERA (732.0IP, 406 ER) in 169 career games (115 starts) over six major league seasons with Tampa Bay (2006-08) and Colorado (2009-11). He has pitched 170 or more innings in each of the last three seasons for the Rockies and has posted strikeout to walk ratios of 3:1 or better in two of those three years.
Lindstrom, 31, is 12-15 with a 3.81 ERA (279.0IP, 118 ER) and 45 saves in five seasons with Florida (2007-09), Houston (2010) and Colorado (2011). He was 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA (54.0IP, 18 ER) in 63 appearances last season.
Guthrie, 32, went 9-17 with a 4.33 ERA (208.0IP, 100ER) in 2011. He was 47-65 with a 4.12 ERA (983.1IP, 450ER) in 161 games (153 starts) over five seasons with the Orioles. Guthrie was claimed off waivers by the Orioles from Cleveland on January 29, 2007.
To clear room on the 40-man roster for these additions, the Orioles have designated LHP Clay Rapada for assignment. Rapada had a 6.06 ERA (16.1IP, 11ER) in 32 appearances for the club in 2011.
