We all know the real reason we go to the ballpark. It’s not so we can sit and watch a baseball game for nine innings, or spend the afternoon with our friends and family sharing in some quality time. Forget all of that. The real perk of going to a major league baseball game? It’s all about the food, baby.
It’s hard to imagine going to a sporting event without something delicious and equally unhealthy by my side. From Philly cheesesteaks during a Phillies game to a famous Dodger Dog, ballpark food has become almost as big as the game itself.
Nationals fans, I’m sure you’re no different. If you’re like me, the game isn’t complete without at least one hot dog, a bag of peanuts and maybe something sweet to finish it all off.
Fortunately for those food lovers in our nation’s capital, some exciting news is coming your way. On Tuesday, the Washington Nationals will introduce several new culinary offerings from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospital at the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk prior to the Cardinals-Nationals 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
Between the new eateries, fans will be able to introduce their palates to a variety of tastes. At Blue Smoke, those with a big appetite can get their hands on some pit barbecue. Next, they can grab some Belgian-style fries and dipping sauces at Box Frites, or slip over to El Verano Taqueria for authentic Mexican food. If you’re into the more familiar ballpark eats, Shake Shack will sell hot dogs, ShackBurgers and cool, frozen custard.
Of course, you can’t have all of this mouthwatering food without an ice cold beer to wash it down, right? In addition to the new food stands, the Nationals have announced that for the remainder of the season, all home games will have $5 happy hour beer specials 2 1/2 hours prior to the scheduled first pitch at the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk Bar.
It’s all in an effort to show off the Miller Lite Scoreboard Walk, a unique atmosphere out in center field at Nationals Park. There, fans can enjoy the game from a unique, high-up view, now while enjoying some of the most original food choices in baseball.
Be sure to check out the array of new menu options, opening at Nationals Park on Tuesday.
