Starting lineups: Nats vs. Braves in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The sun is shining, Max Scherzer is on the mound for the Nationals, most of the regulars are in the lineup, and MASN’s Bob Carpenter, F.P. Santangelo and Dan Kolko are in the house. What more could you ask for?

zimmerman-jogs-white-side.jpgWell, there’s one more thing you thought you were getting today but actually aren’t. Ryan Zimmerman was initially listed as the leadoff hitter for today’s game against the Braves, but when the lineup was posted this morning in the clubhouse he wasn’t in there anywhere. Asked why he’s not playing, Zimmerman replied: “Come on, it’s February!” According to Davey Martinez, Zim told him he’s “a little stiff,” not uncommon for a veteran early in camp. Suffice it to say, there’s nothing of real consequence going on, and there’s no reason to push it on February 25. Plus, there are still 29 more exhibition games on the slate. There’s plenty of time to get at-bats.

All the other healthy regulars are playing as planned today, though, so you’ll get a good dose of Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon, Matt Wieters and Michael A. Taylor, plus fellow big leaguers Brian Goodwin, Howie Kendrick and Matt Adams.

As for Scherzer, he’s slated to throw two innings today. Then again, knowing Scherzer and how much he already has been throwing in the bullpen this spring, no one should be shocked if he talks his way into more work.

Should be a good one, so make sure you tune in ...
