Starting lineups: Nats vs. Mets in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - If now is the time to start really preparing for the regular season, the Nationals are doing so by playing back-to-back night games. Might as well, right?

This stretch of two games under the lights - unusual for spring training - begins tonight on the road against the Mets and concludes Friday with split-squad night games (home against the Astros, road versus the Marlins).

Adam Eaton is starting in left field and leading off tonight, making this the first time he’s played in back-to-back games since returning from his torn ACL. So far, he’s looked very good. Maybe the only evidence of his injury is that he appears to be just a little tentative when coming to a quick stop after sprinting. The more Eaton plays, though, the more confident he’ll become in his leg strength.

sidebar-howie-kendrick-red.jpgHowie Kendrick is getting a rare chance to play first base. Manager Davey Martinez said he just wants Kendrick to do it once or twice in case he’s needed in a game down the road. On a similar note, Matt Adams will play left field Friday night, testing himself out in case of emergency.

Tanner Roark gets the start tonight against Zack Wheeler. It’s probably Roark’s final tune-up before his regular season debut (April 2 at Atlanta), so he’d ideally like to finish on a high note.
