Game 122 lineups: Nats at Cardinals

ST. LOUIS - There may be no bigger house of horrors for the Nationals than Busch Stadium. Either version of the ballpark. Did you know that in the 14 seasons since this franchise arrived in D.C., it owns an 11-31 record on the road against the Cardinals? That’s 11 wins in 14 seasons. That’s really not good. And three of those wins came during a stunning sweep in May 2016.

Given that backdrop, it’s perhaps not all that surprising that the Nationals tonight are trying to avoid a four-game sweep under the shadow of the Gateway Arch. At a time when things already were going south, this was the last place on Earth they would’ve wanted to try to get things back on track.

Roark-White-v-CIN-sidebar.jpgIt’s Tanner Roark in the series finale, and the good news is the right-hander has been outstanding since the All-Star break (4-0, 1.21 ERA). The Nats will need more of that from him tonight. They’ll also need to try to jump out in front early against Luke Weaver, who enters with a 4.66 ERA but is yet another opposing pitcher the Nationals have never seen. The only guy on the roster who has faced the right-hander before? Jeremy Hellickson, naturally, who went 1-for-2 on August 20, 2016.
