With the official closing of the ESPN Zone in Baltimore, the schedule of O’s events to take place there this summer has been canceled as well.
The Baltimore Sun covered the restaurant’s closing in an article you can read here. In the article you’ll read that ESPN Zone’s parent company, Walt Disney Co. made the decision to close five of the chain’s seven locations recently, with Chicago, New York, Las Vegas and Washington D.C.’s locations meeting the same fate as the Inner Harbor landmark here in Baltimore.
Aside from the loss to the Inner Harbor and Power Plant Live, the schedule of Orioles events set to take place at the ESPN Zone had included four more player Q&A’s and another Battle of the Birds. At least for the time being, Orioles director of public relations Monica Barlow said the events have been canceled.
Injured Orioles 2B Brian Roberts has also held his popular Baseball Bash at the ESPN Zone for the past four years. The 5th annual Brian’s Baseball Bash is scheduled for Sunday, August 22, but a change of venue has not been announced.
As for some of the one-of-a-kind O’s memorabilia you may have seen on display at the ESPN Zone over the years - such as the over-sized Etch-a-Sketch depicting Cal Ripken Jr and The Streak and a Brooks Robinson autographed jersey and cleat - The Sun article mentioned above suggests that some of the memorabilia will be showcased at any of the ESPN corporate campuses or in one of the two remaining restaurants in Los Angeles and Anaheim.
