The Ravens welcome the Giants into town tonight for their 12th ever preseason game against the GMen. The third preseason game is usually the most like regular season so tonight should be a perfect test for the first team offense and defense.
Joe Flacco and company should see game play for the entire first half if not more giving them plenty of time to get their timing down for September 13. The defense should get the same amount and against a tough Giants offense this will be another big test for the secondary.
While there has been some times where the secondary has looked overmatched, there has been a few that have really stepped up. Cary Williams has two picks so far this preseason ranking him second in the NFL and Terrell Suggs has looked like a new man out there chasing down the QB. As of August 23, the Ravens are first in points allowed per game at 7.5 and their 11 sacks rank them second in the NFL.
Maybe there's nothing to worry about after all.
There will be something new to watch out for tonight as well if you are going to be at M&T Bank to watch the game. After fans agreed the Ravens needed a new fight song the front office got to work and toyed with an older, fan favorite to make it better.
"Through the years fans have requested that we play the old 'Baltimore Colts Fight Song,' said Gabrielle Dow, the team's vice president of marketing. "When that song was played at the premiere of Barry Levinson's documentary 'The Band That Wouldn't Die,' at M&T [Bank Stadium] a year ago, I was overwhelmed to see the 1,000-plus fans stand and sing the song in unison.
That got us thinking more about adopting the song for the Ravens. The timing seemed right, but we wanted to see what our fans thought," Dow added.
The Ravens let the fans vote on which version they liked best and below is winner. Look for it tonight before kickoff and after the Ravens score.
Baltimore Ravens Let's go
And put that ball across the line
So fly on with talons spread wide
Go in and strike with Ravens pride
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT
Ravens dark wings take to flight
Dive in and show them your might
For Baltimore and Maryland
You will fly on to victory
