The Ravens announced five rookie free-agent signings Tuesday, highlighted by the acquisition of former Alabama State linebacker Nigel Carr.
They also brought in tight ends Matt Balasavage (Temple) and Bruce Figgins (Georgia), cornerback Jordan Mabin (Northwestern) and quarterback Chester Stewart (Temple).
To make room for those additions, the Ravens released fullback Jamison Berryhill (Texas), defensive back Charles Brown (North Carolina), linebacker Eltoro Freeman (Auburn) and tight end Nick Provo (Syracuse).
Carr is a former big-time Florida State recruit who was dismissed from the school in 2010 because of multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. He finished up his career at Alabama State.
Balasavage filled both offensive and special teams roles during his time at Temple. Figgins recorded 16 catches for 179 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons at Georgia.
Mabin is perhaps the most accomplished of the rookies, as he had seven interceptions and 252 tackles in 51 career games with Northwestern.
Stewart gets a chance to go to training camp with his hometown team, as the former Owls quarterback is a Hanover, Md., native and Dematha graduate. He split time under center in all four years with Temple, starting 20 of 39 career games.
