Rapid start for Ravens (Bengals cut it to 10-3)

Well, all that talk about dictating play a bit more on the offensive side of the ball via the no-huddle wasn’t just talk.

The Ravens came out and on their first play of scrimmage this season, Joe Flacco gunned a 52-yard pass downfield to Torrey Smith.

Four plays later, Baltimore took a 3-0 lead just 2:07 into the contest on a Justin Tucker 46-yard field goal.

The Ravens’ defense started just as fast, forcing the Bengals to go three and out. Lots of pressure, lots of aggression, looks familiar for the team wearing purple.

Update: Then with 6:03 to go in the first quarter, Ray Rice ran it in behind Vonta Leach for a 7-yard touchdown and a 10-0 Ravens lead. That was the end of a more methodical 12-play, 63-yard drive that chewed 5:45 off the clock.

Update II: The Bengals got to the Ravens’ defense at the end of the first quarter, marching 76 yards in 14 plays over 6:11. Mike Nugent capped the drive with a 34-yard field goal, trimming Baltimore’s lead to 10-3 just four seconds into the second quarter.
